The Khartoum state Wali (governor) has issued a degree banning pillion riders on motorcycles. The measure, aimed at improving security and combatting lawlessness, will carry stiff penalties, and gives police wide powers, including the threat of arrest of both driver and passenger, and seizure of the motorcycle in case of a repeat offence.

Since March, fires have destroyed three villages in the localities of Um Rawaba and Bara in North Kordofan state, destroying 242 homes and displacing hundreds of families. A 5-year-old child also died in a house fire in Dar El Salaam locality, North Darfur, on Wednesday evening.
Acting Undersecretary of the Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nader Youssef El Tayeb, has handed over a matrix to members of the UN Security Council in New York, that includes the government’s requirements from the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) to assist with democratic transition in Sudan.
