Sudan’s Emergency lawyers said 35 people including four children were arrested following the March of Millions protest in Khartoum and Omdurman. The group condemned the arrests stating that Sudanese security forces fired tear gas and also beat and dragged those they arrested. Some 16 protesters were arrested in Omdurman and a further 19 in Khartoum.
The Darfur Network for Monitoring and Documentation reported this week that two policemen were killed, allegedly by followers of former janjaweed leader Musa Hilal, in Jebel Marra on August 4. Farmers in Sudan are facing great challenges that may lead to the failure of the current agricultural season, speakers at the weekly discussion platform of the Ministry of Information said on Thursday.
Sudan’s oncology services are in crisis. The Sudanese Ministry of Health reported a steady rise in cancer cases in addition to significant increases in treatment costs, whilst lack of medical equipment, clinics, and soaring transport costs mean that not everyone is getting the treatment they deserve.
Several medical staff workers’ groups are on strike in Sudan at the moment to protest bad managerial decisions, unpaid salaries, and poor working conditions. In North Darfur, civil servants also went on strike.
