Two children raped in Sudan’s South Kordofan

Two separate complaints of rape of minors have been lodged with police in Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan, after a 13-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy were violated in separate incidents in the city. Medical confirmation of the rapes was reportedly delayed by an ongoing strike by doctors.

More Sudan strikes and protests, especially around salaries

Sudan witnessed three strikes and two protests on various issues in the past days, on top of the worker’s protests and anti-coup demonstrations that took place last week. The government’s failure to implement the new 2022 salary structure and combat rising inflation are important triggers for the current wave of strikes.

Increase in kala-azar cases in eastern Sudan

The Ministry of Health and Social Development in eastern Sudan’s El Gedaref reported an increase in cases of kala-azar disease in the state, where the number of cases reached 952 cases during the first quarter of this year with another 17 confirmed deaths.
