Residents and internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Gereida in South Darfur have demanded the governor of the state to extend security measures and protect the agricultural season. The South Darfur Wali (governor) visited the area and promised to increase funding for security services.
Idris Mohamed Abdallah, the Director-General of the Ministry of Education in North Darfur, announced the resumption of studies in all schools in the state as of next Sunday, with exams to start for all education levels during the month of May.
The Ministry of Health in West Kordofan state announced nine deaths as a result of the measles, and a further 46 cases that may have emerged. Sources indicated that the measle cases may have originated from a South Sudanese refugee camp in the Ghubeish locality of West Kordofan.
Sudanese activists have said that political detainees held in Soba prison had been on hunger strike, since Tuesday. According to the activists, the detainees will continue their strike until they are either released or receive a fair trial.
At least eight miners were killed in the collapse of four mining shafts in the Karakil mine, north of Zalingei in Central Darfur, on Sunday.
