El Burhan: Sudan to release detainees ‘within days’

The President of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, has issued directives to the competent authorities to review the State of Emergency, and release political detainees ‘within days’, to prepare the atmosphere for dialogue. He also said that “unlike the past, we should not allow one group to dominate the political scene”.

Sudan teachers’ strike threatens basic and secondary school exams

The ongoing strike by Sudan’s teachers is set to continue into the next week, as educators threaten to boycott basic and secondary certificate exams if the demands are not met. Teachers across Sudan are demanding payment according to the new salary structure, as well as disbursements of adjustments for 2020-2021.
