Doctors in the Sudanese capital strongly criticised the large, roughly tenfold increase of prices of medical services in government hospitals, which was decided on by the Khartoum state government.
Security forces detained more than 38 activists from different parts of Khartoum yesterday and took them to unknown destinations. More than a hundred detainees in Soba prison in southeast Khartoum continued their hunger strike for the fourth day in protest against their continued detention without legal charges.
Joint security forces arrested Muhammad El Faki, a former member of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, and the alternate head of the now suspended Empowerment Removal Committee (ERC)*, as well as Maj Maash Awad Karendis, another member of the ERC, on Sunday evening in Khartoum.
The Acting Undersecretary of Sudan’s Ministry of Justice, Hawida Ali, has told the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, that the recommendations presented in the third cycle of the Council’s Universal Periodic Review Working Group will help formulate future programmes aimed at promoting human rights in Sudan.
The recent pattern of arrests and detentions of civil society activists, journalists, and humanitarian workers occurring throughout Sudan these last weeks, is “wholly inconsistent with the [Sudan junta’s] stated commitment to participate constructively in a facilitated process to resolve Sudan’s political crisis to return to a democratic transition”.
